Herb Workshops at Lisdoonan Herbs
Our garden (apart from some recycled palaeoecological samples!) and nursery
are peat free. Quantities of leaf-mould are layed down each year. We try
to garden as sustainably as we can and use very few sprays or other chemical
treatments. Materials such as prunings, waste and scrap are recycled with
enthusiasm and we make use of local organic materials such as stable and farmyard
manure and mushroom compost. While this compares closely with "organic" gardening,
we take a pragmatic approach to using natural recyclable materials, for example
we would not quibble with manure that was from 'non-organic' horses - making
sure it was well decomposed, just as we often eat locally produced non-organic
food rather than imported 'organic' foods. We keep an open mind, born
no doubt of our scientific backgrounds.
